1919 - She was bon on the 19th day of August this year in Nashville, Tennessee.
1952 - She made a hit with her record titled "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" made her the most popular female country singer up to that time and led to numerous other women becoming stars in the male-dominated Country Music field.
1953 - She maintained a successful follow-up with the Top Ten hit "Paying For That Back Street Affair".
1955 - Her early Country hits. "Makin' Believe", one of her biggest hits just missed topping the Billboard charts this year.
1973 - She continued recording at least two albums a year for Decca through this year.
1974 - She signed with Capricorn Records a southern rock label of the era and recorded a blues-flavored album Forever Young, on which she was backed by members of the Allman Brothers Band.
1976 - She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
1991 - She receives the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award as well as being the seventh woman and first Caucasian woman to receive the honor.
2001 - The country music legend officially retired with a farewell performance in her hometown of Nashville.

"It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" was followed by "Paying Affair," a response to Webb "Back Street Affair." The single reached 6 number, helping to establish a permanent place at the top for Wells. For the rest of the '50s, she hit the Top Ten with regularity, racking up a total. In the early '60s, her career dipped slightly, but she continued to have Top Ten hits frequently. During the late '60s and '70s, Wells' streak of hits evaporated, but she managed to have a string of minor hits and remained a popular concert attraction.
